Callum Langs second goal of the season was enough for Shrewsbury to edge 10-man Tranmere 1-0.
Langs first-half effort proved the difference between the 2 sides, with the hosts forced to battle the second half with a guy less after Connor Jennings was sent off for a 2nd yellow card.
Having been reserved early in the actions Jennings was blown off by referee Craig Hicks in stoppage time following a needless foul on Daniel Udoh.
And the forwards dismissal meant Rovers faced a Tricky task to get anything and in the end Lang target was enough for the visitors
The 21-year-old is not likely as he tapped Aaron Pierres shot to place Shrewsbury to score an easier goal all season.
Shrewsbury goalkeeper Max OLeary pulled off a stunning save at the last minute from Neil Danns although rovers battled hard to grab something from the competition.
