The Big Ten has traditionally had the picture of being a smashmouth convention, where lines struggle for yards on the ground in cold climate. The team with the stiffest run defense this past year of the nation came in the Big Ten. Thus did the second-best pass defense. All in all, the convention was second to the SEC in points allowed per game (25.8) and led Power Five conferences in turnovers forced.
