Gareth Southgate considers England’s frontline is as fascinating as every other in world soccer.
World Cup Golden Boot winner Harry Kane caught a hat-trick at Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Bulgaria to move him in the positions of England beyond Sir Geoff Hurst and Stan Mortensen.
The England skipper includes 25 goals from 40 international looks but is complemented Marcus Rashford along with by Raheem Sterling, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and teenagers Jadon Sancho additionally in Southgate’s plans.
“I think they’re as exciting as anything, really,” Southgate said of the assaulting unit.
“I remember going to Spain and thinking’well, a very hard game, but really you look at our front and their entrance three on the evening and I felt that we were strong’.
“And I have got to say, we’ve got Sancho and Hudson-Odoi that are going to drive, and actually push, so I believe it is exciting.
“You want to have players on the field to affect the matches, but you need to have players who could come in and have an impact and I think we are in a wholesome position.”
Asked if the gamers are beginning to recognise they have the potential to be the best, Southgate said:”It’s an interesting comment. I believe they have humility.
“I think they maybe don’t, because they sometimes do not view themselves as the others do.
“We’ve also got to remember that as a coaching team. Frequently you work with the staff and it’s easy to get what they can’t succeed.
“I think whenever we’re judging games, most people look at what hasn’t gone well and sometimes we can overlook the brilliant things that they do, that perhaps other countries do not possess.”
The hat-trick from Bulgaria of kane was the next of the international career, also Danny Rose says that the striker is the’best professional’.
“I don’t wish to put pressure on Harry but when he is in the team, you’re guaranteed aims and a leader who will offer all,” Rose said.
“It’s a chance to be with him. He’s literally the best professional, the greatest professional I have ever coached with or played with and his album club and country is no coincidence.”
