Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech created two penalty saves to give his group a shoot-out win against Swindon Wildcats 2.
The 37-year-old a technical advisor at Chelsea, won man of the match and saved Swindons initial and efforts.
Phoenix trailed 2-1 after two periods but an equaliser from Taylor Wootton took the game into overtime.
That ended goalless and contributed to a shoot-out where Cech made the crucial saves.
