Scunthorpe improved their unbeaten run to three matches with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Northampton.
With all three of the goals coming in the opening 31 minutes the Iron failed the damage in the first half.
Lee Novak fired them ahead in the 12th minute, beating the offside trap to bring down a clever move and flick it past onrushing goalkeeper David Cornell.
Two minutes later, the striker netted his second, this time spanned out of close range after a Kevin Van Veen header had been kept out by Cornell.
Sam Hoskins shot extensive during an unusual sight before van Veen – against his former team – curled a fantastic strike to wrap up victory for the hosts.
Northampton enhanced after the break, but any hopes they had of finding a way back in the game vanished for catching Scunthorpe goalkeeper Rory Watson in the face with his boot while challenging for the ball when striker Vadaine Oliver was sent away in the 54th minute.
There was A bloodied Watson forced off, but the Iron continued to dominate – with a blend of Cornell and the crossbar denying Novak that a hat-trick overdue on.
