As England U21s started their Euro 2021 qualifying campaign with a 3-2 victory in Turkey eddie Nketiah scored just two goals.
Aidy Boothroyd’s team endured frustration at the summer it seemed like that feeling might endure on Friday night and since they were knocked from the Championship in the group stages, even though a crop of prospects given a opportunity.
Only six members of the group with the month’s qualifiers have played for the Young Lions – Nketiah one of them.
The striker put England ahead , though Turkey turned the match around, Nketiah and Reiss Nelson struck to secure the triumph.
England started well and went ahead after just four minutes following a good move between Steven Sessegnon and then Phil Foden down the side of the penalty area; Foden’s low cross was missed by two Turkish defenders permitting Nketiah to stab the ball home from seven yards out.
The teams went to the level after Dogukan Sinik scored following 25 minutes and dashed clear although nelson had an opportunity to score in the first half.
England made a start and they paid the cost six minutes. A well-worked corner saw Mert Muldur eliminate his marker and his rush into the post watched him flick the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.
But, into the game turned on its head. Foden had been the architect darting goalwards before threading a beautiful pass to Nketiah only and on loan in Leeds, provided a clean finish.
Immediately afterwards, Nelson netted what was the winning goal with a shot which may have taken a deflection off a guardian.
