After the womens 4x400m relay team won bronze britain finished their World Championships campaign.
Emily Diamond, Jodie Williams, Zoey Clark and Laviai Nielsens quartet finished fourth in the final but were transferred to third following Jamaicas disqualification.
The mens team failed to finish their race following a changeover error between Toby Harries and Rabah Yousif.
As they finished top of the buffet table with 14 16, the USA won the race.
We ran our socks off now, every single one of us, Diamond told BBC Sport. We wanted that medal so, so poorly.
That is the fastest weve run in many decades, it surpasses the Olympics, and that I believe we can be proud of ourselves.
The choice to penalise Jamaica for a problem over placement was welcome news because the three won in Helsinki 2005 for Britain, who were put to get their prize total that is lowest.
